2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division
The 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson will herald a century of history, tradition and excellence as America’s premier fighting force when its Soldiers compete in Iron Horse Week Aug. 14-17, 2017, in a true warrior’s sense of competition and camaraderie.
Iron Horse Week is defined by the spirit of the Soldiers of the division. That spirit is exemplified in 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team and its Soldiers’ desire to succeed at any challenge put before them. The Commander’s Cup at Iron Horse Week is prized by units, but not because it is a trophy for display. It is held almost sacred because it can only be won through teamwork, camaraderie and that undeniable mettle that makes a unit a force to be reckoned with, and a team of legend.
During the 2016 Iron Horse Week, 1st SBCT came off block leave and prevailed over the rest of the division with little preparation. This year, 2nd Sqdn., 1st Cav. Reg., is looking to repeat history. Having trained relentlessly in the field over the past 12 months, and just recently returned from the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, it will once again go into block leave just before the competition. The brigade has formed teams, but while some units will spend many physical training hours trying to prepare, the 2nd Sqdn., 1st Cav. Reg., left the field prepared as any unit should. They will get some well-deserved rest and enter the competition ready to win.
