FORT CARSON, Colo. — The 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson bade farewell to Brig. Gen. John V. Meyer III and Col. Thomas M. Feltey June 5, 2020, at Manhart Field at Fort Carson, Colorado.

After serving as the deputy commanding general of 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson since November, Meyer will continue his service in Germany as the deputy chief of staff of operations, U.S. Army Europe.

“My Family and I are grateful for the opportunity to have served at the Mountain Post and the 4th Infantry Division,” Meyer said. “My service as the deputy commanding general has been a highlight of my career.”

Maj. Gen. Matthew W. McFarlane, commanding general, 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson commander, commended the superior leadership and superb efforts of both Meyer and Feltey.

Having served as the 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson chief of staff since August 2018, Feltey will continue at Fort Eustis, Virginia, with U.S. Army Futures Command.

Addressing both the physical and virtual audience, as the ceremony was broadcast live on Facebook, Feltey’s words were spoken with equal parts lighted-heartedness and sincerity.

“I know you’re probably a little sad that you couldn’t join us in person,” Feltey said. “However, I am grateful that at least we can share in this virtual space. On the plus side, if it starts hailing you and your cars will be safe.”

After lifting the mood, Feltey closed the ceremony and expressed his appreciation for his time with the “Ivy” Division.

“I will miss this place and its natural beauty and epic adventures,” said Feltey. “But I will especially miss the people, who are the real spirit of Fort Carson and our community. You all make this the ‘Best Hometown in the Army.’”
