FORT CARSON, Colo. — Fort Carson leaders honored a Colorado Springs businessman March 20, 2019, for his ongoing contributions to the installation’s Soldiers and Families.
Scott Bryan, who was the president of the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo from 2016-2017 and now serves on its foundation board, was officially announced as the 2018 Fort Carson good neighbor during an award luncheon at the Elkhorn Conference Center.
“We need to listen and be aware of the needs of Fort Carson and make sure we are there to support (Soldier and Families) all the time,” said Bryan. “We are there for you guys, all the time.”
Maj. Gen. Randy A. George, commanding general, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson, congratulated Bryan on being named the 2018 Fort Carson good neighbor through a video message, as he is currently deployed to Afghanistan.
“The Good Neighbor Program is unique as it recognizes one individual from our surrounding community who, through his or her efforts, enhances the quality of life for Soldiers and their Families,” said Brig. Gen. William L. Thigpen, acting senior commander, 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson.
Bryan is the 41st recipient of the award, which has been given to a civilian in the Pikes Peak Region every year since 1978.
“The rodeo board has donated more than $80,000 to Fort Carson Soldiers and Families in the last several years to improve our holidays by providing Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to those in need,” Thigpen said. “A ‘thank you’ is not enough, but we offer most sincerely to you, Scott, our deepest gratitude.”
In his remarks, Bryan said he was humbled to be named a good neighbor and stressed his commitment to fostering a good neighbor philosophy with Fort Carson and the community.
“I think it is important the Pikes Peak Region, and I would say the state of Colorado, always embraces Fort Carson, its Soldiers and their Families as good neighbors,” said Bryan.
Thigpen thanked the other Good Neighbor Program attendees for their continued support of Fort Carson’s military men, women and Families.
