FORT CARSON, Colo. — Early this month, Bravo Detachment, 230th Financial Management Support, 4th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, completed a field training exercise held at Camp Red Devil at Fort Carson.

The training exercise was a technically focused evaluation of the detachment’s capabilities and readiness by members of the Army Financial Management Command at Indianapolis. The detachment began training in preparation for an upcoming deployment.

“This is a very big test for financiers to make sure they are capable of performing their duties while deployed,” said Capt. Ellaina Williams, commander, Bravo Detachment, 230th FMS, 4th STB.

The evaluation by the command in Indianapolis provided a benchmark of where the detachment stands in regard to training.

“The Soldiers were tested to their limits,” Williams said. “Each team performed (its) duties and proved (itself) ready for the next step.”

Eventually, the detachment will function as three separate teams once it deploys.

“The training exercise was set up to simulate a deployment environment,” explained Sgt. 1st Class Sylvia Steinkamp, NCO in charge, Bravo Detachment, 230th FMS, 4th STB.

“The Soldiers must be able to function as a team in order to accomplish the mission.”

During the field training exercise, the unit was split into teams to cover a larger area of operation.

“It helped them build team cohesion and confidence,” Steinkamp said. “Now they know exactly who they’re going to be working with and what they’ll be doing.”

The detachment has also gone through multiple field training and technical training exercises away from Fort Carson over the last several months, and the commander has been pleased with his team’s overall performance.

“I believe that I have the best team in the world,” Williams said. “Their character is a testament to their upbringing, and they are always willing to do whatever needs to be done to assist the customers.”
