In a fast-paced and ever-changing world, finding quick food options without sacrificing health or taste just got a little easier for Soldiers.

The James R. Wolf Dining Facility (DFAC) reintroduced “grab and go” food service Sept. 6, 2016, with healthy and unique food choices available for all Fort Carson Soldiers.

“‘Grab and go’ is a concept for Soldiers to not have to wait in line, grab a few select items and move on with their day,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Brishen McGrath, brigade senior food adviser, 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Inf. Div. “Soldiers are allowed one entrée and one salad, plus any sides they like. Although we offer many of the same things that the dining facility offers, we also offer signature items like ‘The Deuce’ cheeseburger.”

Sgt. Ross Hamel, grab and go NCO in charge, 759th Military Police Battalion, said he wanted to make good food for Soldiers so they get their money’s worth.

Thus, he and Spc. Lauren Taylor, culinary specialist, 4th Engineer Battalion, created “The Deuce” double cheeseburger, Greek gyros, the “Lean Rooster” grilled chicken sandwich and a sandwich of the day. Patrons can also look forward to one of their upcoming creations — a salmon burger on a pretzel bun.

Taylor said Soldiers should come to the grab and go because the staff treats it as if it was their “own little café,” and that they dare to be different with their recipes.

“Anyone can just have a regular sandwich with mayo or mustard,” said Taylor. “I love being able to customize our recipes. Just the other day I randomly made up my own sauce for our burger and had so many people compliment it. I really love what I do.”

Pfc. Jesse Johnson, who is currently in-processing to the installation, said he plans to come back often.

“There’s not always a lot of … choices in the main DFAC, so I came over here today,” he said. “I also like how fast and easy the grab and go is.”

“The grab and go, which currently has the same hours of operations as the main dining facility, may extend its hours as more Soldiers come through,” said McGrath. “Currently, we can handle about 150 Soldiers a day, so the more the merrier. We also welcome any feedback from Soldiers, including any items they would like to see added to the menu.
