Soldiers from different backgrounds and military occupational specialties gathered Feb. 18, 2016, to learn a few basics from the world of military intelligence.

The 4th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Soldiers attended the Company Intelligence Support Team course which covers the basics of intelligence analysis and intelligence preparation of the battlefield.

“It takes some of the day-to-day duties like basic analysis from the commander and allows him to focus on the larger picture,” said instructor Alexander Moon.

He said engineers, forward observers, mechanics and supply Soldiers provide a different perspective to intelligence analysis and preparation.

During the training, Soldiers learned about military intelligence as well as the tools and tricks of intelligence analysis.

“While the 4th BSB is a support battalion, the unit aims to train Soldiers, regardless of their job, to be part of these new intelligence support teams to facilitate the flow of information from the bottom to the top, providing timely intelligence which will enable more informed decisions,” said 2nd Lt. Kezia Constant, battalion intelligence officer, 4th BSB.

“(The training helped) me realize what my intelligence officer needs to better support the mission,” said Spc. Michael Barton, wheeled vehicle mechanic, Company B, 4th BSB.

A relatively new addition to the support battalion, the intelligence teams help units analyze, create and send out more accurate information, as well as raise the overall intelligence awareness within the unit.

“I feel with what I learned I can bring this battalion to a higher success rate in completing missions,” said Pfc. Dyllan Leitner, wheeled vehicle mechanic, Company B, 4th BSB.
