Competition highlights teamwork

FORT CARSON, Colo. — Soldiers assigned to the 4th Infantry Division battled it out amongst five squads during a 48-hour long competition under cold and muddy conditions testing their physical strength, mental fortitude and teamwork ability to earn the title of “Ivy’s Best Squad” at Fort Carson May 24, 2022.

The objective of the competition was to identify the best squad by putting them through rigorous events testing their team’s unity as they depended on the leaders and their teammates, thus, creating a Mountain Post READY squad.

The five squads consisted of Soldiers assigned to 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment; 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team; 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment; 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team; and 6th Attack Reconnaissance Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Inf. Div.

FORT CARSON, Colo. — Staff Sgt. This competition put Soldiers to the test going head-to-head in a series of events. The events included a modified Army Combat Fitness Test, M4 carbine range, land navigation and drill and ceremony.

“The Best Squad Competition enables the Ivy Division to demonstrate capabilities guided by the (Command Sgt. Maj. Adam Nash, senior enlisted advisor of 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson) to enable cohesive teams who are highly trained, disciplined and fit,” said Sgt. 1st Class Corey Donnelly, noncommissioned officer in charge of the Best Squad Competition, assigned to 2nd Bn., 12th Inf. Reg., 2nd SBCT, 4th Inf. Div.

When all was said and done, the 2nd Bn., 12th Inf. Reg., 2nd SBCT, 4th Inf. Div. squad took the win with 76 points.

“Proud of my guys, they did great,” said Staff Sgt. William Warren, squad leader with 2nd Bn., 12th Inf. Reg., 2nd SBCT, 4th Inf. Div. “Feels great to be done.”
