FORT CARSON, Colo. — Keys to new tactical equipment maintenance facilities (TEMFs) located near the intersection of Warfighter and Butts roads were turned over to the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade March 7, 2022.
Buildings 9476 and 9496 bring the CAB and Butts Army Airfield Construction Program one step closer to completion, said Tom Wiersma, Directorate of Public Works (DPW) Master Planning Division community planner. The two TEMFs and two company operations facilities, currently under construction adjacent to them, join the three 4th CAB barracks to the west of Butts Army Airfield in the Wilderness Road Complex.

The 58,200-square-foot maintenance facilities provide the aviation brigade with consolidated repair and maintenance space for wheeled vehicles and aviation support equipment. The buildings’ design also incorporate core areas, which include administrative, training and tool rooms; workshops; weapons and communication vaults; and restrooms, said Sachkia Hamilton, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project engineer.
Soldier parking, tactical vehicle hardstand, oil and hazardous waste storage buildings, a disposition company warehouse and limited unit deployment storage buildings were a part of the project, explained Wiersma.
This phase of the CAB and Butts Army Airfield Construction Program also included improvements to traffic in and around the Wilderness Road Complex, as well as paving the last section of Essayons Road leading to Fort Carson’s Gate 19, completed in December 2021.
“We are excited to be facilitating the 4CAB move into permanent, purpose-built facilities that support their mission,” said Joe Wyka, director, DPW. “Thanks to the Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District team who makes each generation of buildings better than the last. As we wrestle with the requirements for expanded space across our footprint, these projects will free up badly needed buildings for other needs.”
