FORT CARSON, Colo. — The 4th Infantry Division and community held a farewell ceremony April 30, 2021, for Brig. Gen. Isaac J. Peltier, deputy commanding general for support, 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson at Fort Carson.
“This is not just a farewell to Brig. Gen. Isaac Peltier,” said Maj. Gen. Matthew W. McFarlane, commanding general, 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson. “This is also a way to honor and acknowledge his superior leadership and service to the Mountain Post.”
McFarlane dived deep into the history of Peltier’s career.
Peltier grew up in Denver, commissioned as a field artillery officer at the University of Colorado and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, before he was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea.
Peltier was selected for Special Forces, resulting in him accepting the call and earning his Special Forces tab.
“Little known fact, I first met Isaac in 1993 Ranger School where we endured the shared hardship of snow,” said McFarlane.
After Peltier’s time at North Carolina and Korea, he was assigned to the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Carson.
“Isaac has dedicated his career to protecting the homeland on countless deployments to the Middle East, Central Asia and Europe,” said McFarlane.

On April 30 the Legion of Merit was awarded to Peltier for exceptional meritorious service to the U.S. Army while serving as the division’s deputy commanding general of support from July 10 to May 31.
Peltier has also been awarded the Order of Saint Maurice for outstanding contributions to the community of Army infantrymen.
Shannon Peltier, Isaac Peltier’s wife, was awarded the Meritorious Public Service Medal for exceptional meritorious service in support of the 4th Inf. Div. and Fort Carson from July 2020 to April 2021.
Shannon Peltier’s leadership and commitment to Army Families will leave a mark on Fort Carson for years to come, McFarlane added.
Finally, McFarlane presented a personal gift to Isaac Peltier.
The gift was a division “Steadfast and Loyal!” statue personally designed for Isaac Peltier.
“It’s been a privilege and an honor to serve at Fort Carson and the 4th Infantry Division,” said Isaac Peltier. “This post has been a home to my Family for over a decade during my military service.”
Isaac Peltier gave thanks to all of his team members for the leadership and friendship along the way.
“To all of the standing units at Fort Carson, thank you for what you do,” Isaac Peltier added. “Thank you for the defense of our nation and enriching the fabric of the Fort Carson team.”
