FORT CARSON, Colo. — Just as the seasons are beginning to change, people change as well, and when it comes to the military — leadership changes to allow for growth.
Soldiers, friends, Families and colleagues gathered to welcome a new brigade senior enlisted leader, Command Sgt. Maj. Phillip C. Hollifield. Hollifield was welcomed to 4th Sustainment Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, during a change of responsibility ceremony Sept. 23, 2020, at Founders Field on Fort Carson.
Col. Steven E. Putthoff, commander, 4th SB, presided over the ceremony as Sgt. Maj. Jason S. Lamblin passed responsibility of the brigade to the incoming command sergeant major.
“Sgt. Maj. Lamblin, we often say, ‘the Army sends the right people at the right time;’ I can think of no better way to phrase it,” Putthoff said. “The experience, background and enthusiasm you brought in, especially your knowledge of manning and personnel, resolved multiple Soldier issues, and helped take care of the Soldiers quickly and efficiently.”
Lamblin said he appreciated the 13 companies that make up the 4th SB.
“The men and women of the ‘Rough Rider’ brigade are involved in every aspect of training, logistical support and deployment operations across all formations on Fort Carson, 24/7, 365 days per year,” Lamblin said. “Whether you are an organic ‘Ivy’ unit or a tenant unit, the Rough Rider Soldiers provide world class professional services and support to every aspect of your organization.”

Hollifield recently served with the 2nd Security Force Assistance Brigade based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
“I am honored and humbled to be a part of this great Ivy Family,” Hollifield said. “You can expect me to be clear, concise, relevant and timely in support of our Army’s priorities of ‘People First, Winning Matters, Readiness, Modernization and Reform’ by, with and through our commander’s intent.”
Lamblin filled the spot left vacant when Command Sgt. Maj. Phelicia M. Redd transitioned to Fort Bragg, to be the senior enlisted adviser to the commander of the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command in June 2020.
“Even though the time was short, I absolutely learned a lot and gained a lot of experience,” Lamblin said. “Col. Putthoff, each day you took time to coach, teach, and mentor me all while making me a more rounded sergeant major. Thank-you for the honor to serve as the interim Rough Rider 7.”

As Lamblin now transitions to the Ivy Division staff, Hollifield looks toward the future.
“I look forward to serving alongside every one of the Rough Rider Soldiers,” Hollifield said. “Together, we can go longer, fight harder and meet our nation’s strategic objectives.”
